Jeffersonville, VT A rare bluebird day sparked off the third and final stop of the GORE-TEX Backcountry Basecamp tour, held at Smugglers’ Notch Resort’s Upper Parking Lot. After a week of dealing with rainy conditions, northeast skiers and riders remedied their vitamin D deficiency from first to last chair as they partook in free demos, avy education and the latest in AT and telemark gear.
And any issue of thirst was quenched as well through the Heady Topper Beacon Rodeo, a practice search and rescue operation run by Smuggs’ ski patrollers and Backcountry staff. (All Heady Toppers were successfully recovered.) The day wrapped up with an après raffle at the Brewster River Pub and Brewery, where all proceeds went to Vermont Backcountry Alliance, Ian Fund and the Cambridge Winter Wellness program, which funds a week of skiing at Smuggs for local fourth, fifth and sixth graders. Here’s a gallery of the day.
