Jeffersonville, Vt., November 2019: As part of its 25th anniversary season, Backcountry Magazine is excited to launch the Backcountry Magazine Podcast.
Recorded largely from host and former Backcountry editor in chief Adam Howard’s 1971 VW Westfalia, the Backcountry Podcast is both grassroots and thoughtfully produced, featuring music from Telluride’s Alex Paul and environmental sounds from each guest’s mountain experience.
“Bringing ambient sounds from, say, one of Cody Townsend’s flicks into audio is wilder than I expected,” Howard says. “And seeing Caroline Gleich ski is one thing. Hearing her as she falls and blow out her knee, entirely another. And then we get to talk it out.”
In season one of the Backcountry Podcast, Howard speaks with athlete, influencer and activist Gleich about everything from wedding-day stress to summiting Everest; freeskier and film star Townsend talks about his mission to ski all the lines in the classic coffee-table book 50 Classic Ski Descents of North America; and Olympic downhiller Wiley Maple shares how he balances racing at 90 MPH with backcountry skiing at 50° and how he’s dealt with the death of his best friend last spring.
All three episodes of season one of the Backcountry Magazine Podcast are available now. Listen at backcountrymagazine.com/podcast or find these episodes on Google Play, Stitcher or iTunes.
