The Tech: Venture’s Storm scored an Editors’ Choice Award in 2018, and this year testers gave top honors to the Tempest, a women’s-specific interpretation. The same floaty freeride formula—gravity-defying nose, tapered waist and traditional tail—is on tap, but with a more malleable poplar and ash core.
The Talk: Testers couldn’t get enough of the Tempest’s balanced build, thanks to a construction they deemed agile without being fragile and responsive without losing its sense of humor. “Just the right amount of stiffness for full control while allowing plenty of room to play,” one Crested Butte freerider said. “This thing will send you to the moon if you let it, but stomps landings every time.”
