“We came up to Holden in search of spirituality,” says splitboarder Neil Provo. And he and the Powderwhore crew found it in the snowy peaks, pillow lines and steep couloirs above the Lutheran retreat at Holden Village, Washington. Once a copper mining camp, Holden Village is now a religious ministry nestled at 3,200 feet in the North Cascades. Spirituality abounds, and extends far into the mountains beyond the retreat. “Heaven is on earth,” Provo says. “Enjoy it while it lasts.”
Having been to holden many times in the summer, walking in through the backcountry and arriving as a tired and worn pilgrim, i feel the joy in this beautiful tribute. Now the call is for me to head up in the winter with skins and baords!
