Backcountry Basecamp Schedule of Events: Crested Butte Mountain Resort

Backcountry Magazine, in association with GORE-TEX, Patagonia and Voilé, is proud to announce that it will be bringing its third-annual nationwide backcountry skiing and snowboarding tour to Gunnison and Crested Butte Mountain Resort the weekend of March 12-15.

At the Crested Butte BASECAMP stop, Backcountry Magazine will begin the weekend in Gunnison on Thursday evening with a presentation by Patagonia skier Caroline Gleich. The show will take place at Western State University and will include a backcountry education component by AIARE.

Beginning Saturday morning at Crested Butte Mountain Resort, staff will showcase the newest backcountry equipment like skis, skins, splitboards and more; safety gear like beacons, shovels, probes and airbag packs; and technical outerwear, helmets, gloves, etc. all in a yurt-based setting. AIARE educators will conduct demos and classes each day, and Irwin Guides will take visitors on complimentary backcountry tours with an emphasis on safety education. On Saturday at 4 p.m., BASECAMP hosts a huge party and huger raffle at Butte 66 to benefit Crested Butte Ski Patrol, the Crested Butte Avalanche Center and Western State Mountain Sports. For more on the Backcountry Basecamp, click here.
