The mercury dipped below freezing this weekend in Teton Valley, Idaho, home of Backcountry Magazine’s remote, Western office, which makes us think of winter. Though we’re still a couple months away from actually being on snow, it is finally the time of year when your friends won’t look at you sideways when you start talking about which new gear to buy or avalanche classes to take.
That time of year coincides with snow and avalanche workshop season, when avalanche centers and educational organizations around the country bring in snow-science experts to share the latest insights. To help you find one in your region, we’ve compiled a list of the workshops we know about, but if we’ve missed one, please email tom@backcountrymagazine.com and we’ll add it. Hello! Sorry that you’re having trouble finding it. Organizers confirmed all the events and links, but since the Bend SAW is so late, I think the Central Oregon Avalanche Center hasn’t posted it publicly yet. Have patience! And check back with them later this fall. Hope this helps. —Tom
