BASECAMP 6.0 – Backcountry Magazine teams up with Scott Sports and Nokian Tyres to spread mountain education across the country
Jeffersonville, Vt. (for immediate release) – For more than 20 years, Backcountry Magazine has been committed to educating its community on how to safely travel through untracked terrain. And for six years we’ve been taking the message from the pages to the people. Starting in January, we’re teaming up with Scott Sports and Nokian Tyres to bring that knowledge to resorts in California, Washington, Utah, Wyoming, Colorado and Vermont for the sixth-annual Backcountry BASECAMP Tour.
As they travel throughout the country spreading safety and stoke, join the editors of Backcountry Magazine, alongside guides, forecasters, AIARE instructors and gear experts for a resort-based showcase of all things backcountry—including demos, avalanche education, guided tours and a huge raffle.
This winter is all about getting farther out and back safely.

I am truly disheartened that you will be holding one of these events at Alta ski resort. Alta is actively trying to take some of our precious backcountry terrain in Grizzly Gulch to add a lift. Not only will Grizzly gulch be taken if they are successful but also the main access to other backcountry areas. Therefore I will not support this event.
Neither will I. Alta is skiing only, so another good reason to not attend.
I kind of expected NM wouldn’t be visited, but no CO stop on the tour?
We’re working on a Colorado location for that March 9/10 stop!

I am seconding Christian Johnson! Please pick any resort in Utah other than Alta. They are the only resort that is not cooperating towards the Central Wasatch National Conservation and Recreation Area, a legislative project affecting an 80,000-acre area connecting fragmented land with areas currently under federal protection, designating additional wilderness areas, and limiting future development in the Wasatch. Alta has been offered numerous compromise positions taking into account the needs of the resort. However, at the last minute, they decided to walk away from the whole project, obviously not interested in any form of compromise. I have been an Alta fan for a great many years but today Alta is telling us that it is not a friend of the Backcountry. So Backcountry Magazine, please listen to them and change venue.
