Tested and Reviewed

Tester Gregg Davis looks for what he calls “the lightest big skis I can find” in his preferred conditions—fluffy Wasatch pow. He wants the benefits of flotation without sacrificing speed on the up, and he has found the tool for the job.

Here is his review of the DPS Wailer 112 RP2 Tour1:

OVERALL SCORE: 9/10
BEST FOR: Straight-Up Touring
BEST SPEED: Medium
RESPONSIVENESS: 9/10
PLAYFULNESS: 8/10
SHORT TURNS: 9/10
MEDIUM TURNS: 10/10
CRUD PERFORMANCE: 6/10
POW PERFORMANCE: 8/10

Comments: “The only thing these don’t handle well is cut up crud, but is that what you are buying touring skis for? These are really for any conditions: deep fresh, ready-to-harvest corn, wind buff, creamy style. This should be your touring ski. Light? Check. Nice shovel for quick flotation? Double check. Tough enough to push back from tip to tail should you need it? Triple check. Can it also balance your checkbook? Maybe not, but it is absolutely one of the best of the test with high performance and low weight.”
