Backcountry Basecamp: Smugglers’ Notch Dispatch

Smugglers’ Notch skiers across northern Vermont might be calling in sick today after the weekend wrapped up in rowdy fashion. As temperatures crept into the 60s, the grills and Adirondack chairs came out in Lot 1 to close out the final day of the final stop of the Backcountry Basecamp, this time presented by GORE-TEX, Mammut, Voilé and AIARE. All weekend long, skiers and riders checked out gear in the Basecamp yurt, tried demos from Salomon, Atomic, Outdoor Gear Exchange and Voilé, and Saturday capped off with a huge raffle and party at the Brewster River Pub and Brewery to benefit the Vermont Backcountry Alliance, IAN Fund and Cambridge Area Rotary. But that wasn’t to be outdone by the Lot 1 après scene on Sunday, which went late after the lifts stopped spinning, highlighted by a few hours of live music from King Me. Here’s a gallery from the weekend, and you can find more photos from the Catamount Trail Association, here.
