Backcountry Basecamp: Crested Butte Dispatch

CRESTED BUTTE, COLO. Two down, one to go. The Backcountry Basecamp tour wrapped up this Sunday evening in Crested Butte, Colo. after a weekend of OB tours, avalanche and safety clinics and gear demos from Scott Sports, Salomon, Atomic and Coldsmoke Splitboards. The clear skies and warm weather kept CB locals and visitors alike cruising through the Basecamp village, situated between the Red Lady and Silver Queen chairlifts. Each morning kicked off with the Gore-Tex U.S. National Ski Mountaineering Individual Races, followed by tours provided by Irwin Guides. And on Saturday evening, Butte 66 hosted the raffle and après party, which benefited Crested Butte Search and Rescue. Here are some highlights from the weekend.

ABOUT BASECAMP: Backcountry Magazine, in association with GORE-TEX, Patagonia, Marmot and Voilé, is embarking on its third-annual nationwide backcountry skiing and snowboarding tour. This year, Basecamp is teaming up with AIARE to provide the latest in avalanche education at each tour stop.

At each Basecamp stop, Backcountry Magazine staff showcase the newest backcountry equipment like skis, skins, splitboards and more; safety gear like beacons, shovels, probes and airbag packs; and technical outerwear, helmets, gloves, etc. all in a yurt-based setting.
