Jackson Basecamp: Day 2 Dispatch

Jackson is a wrap. That’s right, the first tour stop of the GORE-TEX Backcountry Basecamp is all done, and we’re heading to Crested Butte, Colo. Day 2 of the event was a sunny Sunday even warmer than the previous day, and visitors passed through the village, joined Jackson Hole Guide Robb Hess for OB tours, listened to safety talks from AIARE instructor Nancy Bockino and demoed gear from a handful of brands. Here are some highlights from the day.

ABOUT BASECAMP: Backcountry Magazine, in association with GORE-TEX, Patagonia, Marmot and Voilé, is embarking on its third-annual nationwide backcountry skiing and snowboarding tour. This year, Basecamp is teaming up with AIARE to provide the latest in avalanche education at each tour stop.

: ERIC BLEHM: MEET YOUR HEROES
Eric Blehm’s roots in snowboarding run deep. He started riding during the sport’s infancy, and after college became an editor at Transworld SNOWboarding Magazine. Years later, he was in a lift line when a fellow rider saw the “Craig Kelly is my Co-Pilot” sticker on his board, and asked Blehm: “Who is Craig Kelly?” He was floored by the notion that there were snowboarders out there who didn’t know who Craig was. And this inspired him to write The Darkest White.
