Autumn is right around the corner. With the cooling temps comes the beginning of film festival season, a time for generating stoke for the approaching winter. One organization prepping for a cinematic onslaught is the Winter Wildlands Alliance (WWA), a nonprofit whose mission is to promote and preserve winter wildlands and a quality human-powered snowsports experience on public lands.

When I chose to attempt to set the record for skinning and skiing the most vertical feet in one year, I knew skiing solo was going to be a reality. Most people aren’t into repeated 10,000-vertical-foot days or skiing in marginal June conditions.

In a July 15 press release, Dynafit announced the recall of the Khion ski boot. The Khion, released for winter 2015-16, is a four-buckle freeride boot that was intended to balance chargeability on the descent with lightweight movability on the ascent. This voluntary recall pertains to all North American-distributed men’s and women’s models of both the carbon and non-carbon Khion.

FARELLONES, CHILE. On Thursday, July 14, 30-year-old Swedish freeskier Matilda Rapaport was injured in an avalanche while filming. Rapaport was buried for an estimated time of 30 minutes, and the lengthy burial induced a coma that eventually resulted in death, reports Ski Racing.
